We might think that maybe it’s the frontliners who are greatly affected by the pandemic. Yes, in a way. They’re tired. They’ve used up all their energy and will to serve in the last six months of accommodating patient after patient after patient. Maybe it’s the middle class people who struggle to live by the day. We work 9-5 everyday and bring home food to the table with our daily incentives. Or maybe it’s the immunocompromised whose health state is always vulnerable. But when you think about it, the ones who are really suffering this crisis are the little children who have no idea what is going on in the world. They’ve lost a part of their childhood just because of the pandemic.
With mandatory school closures everywhere, the kids have no choice but to continue their education online. And even in this day and age of new technology, it’s a strange idea to be learning online especially for toddlers whose attention span is the size of a goldfish. We don’t see kids anywhere anymore. They’re not in the streets playing the usual patintero, or tigso and getting all muddy and sweaty like they should. Amusement and theme parks are still closed until further notice and the toy stores are empty. This is a strange time we’re living in, and needless to stay, this is the time that we need to be there and stay home for our children. They have little knowledge why all of a sudden they’re not allowed to go out. They can’t have a grasp of why they’re seeing their classmates and teachers on screen instead of interacting with them personally. We must always be keen on their needs be it physiological or psychological. Staying home and abiding by the government’s safety measures is one way to speed up the process. When we stay home and flatten the curve altogether, then the chances of them getting back that childhood which this pandemic robbed off of them will be sooner. We also need to consider the choices we make when it comes to their health and immune system. We need to make sure that kids maintain a healthy mental state as well as a strong immune system to fight off viruses and diseases.
